Absent-Minded
Hannah and I went back to the mall today since I couldn't buy what I needed yesterday with the potential fire. I got everything I needed at the mall and then went to Walmart. It was already Hannah's lunch time and close to her nap time. My plan was to get the few things on my list and head home. I parked the car, got out, opened the back door, put my purse and Hannah's diaper bag next to her, got a cart that was right next to the car, then I was going to get Hannah out of her carseat. I closed her door, so that I could get the cart by. I had already locked the car, so by closing her door, I locked Hannah in the car. It's only May, but we already have 80 degree weather. I don't think I panicked. I knew that Brian was home since it's his day off, so I was going to call him to come unlock the door. I waited for someone to walk by, so that I could borrow their cell phone. A lady pulled up next to me and I asked to borrow her phone because I had locked my keys in my car and my daughter was inside. She asked who I was going to call and if he was close. She said that if he wasn't, she could call the police for me. I worried that Brian wouldn't answer if he didn't recognize the number, but he answered. I told him I needed him to come unlock the car. I knew that it would only take him five minutes to get to me because we live so close to Walmart. As I waited for him, I tried to talk to Hannah through the window. I kept telling her to drink her water, but she decided to go through my purse instead, found my keys, and showed them to me. It took Brian longer than five minutes to get to me. I was hoping he didn't decide to take a shower first. He finally came about ten minutes later and I unlocked the door. Hannah's cheeks were flushed and she was sweating. She was totally fine though. I did my shopping and then headed home. When I got home, Brian told me that he would have gotten to me sooner, but his car didn't start. He called his parents, but they weren't nearby and they don't have a key to our car anyway. I think we better give them a spare key in case this happens again. Hopefully it won't! I think we need a new car too, maybe this year.

wow i am impressed that you didnt panic, i think i would have freaked out...it would have been funny if hannah had opened the door for you...i am glad she is ok and that everything worked out well.
I've done the same thing, at the kids school. It was when Sarah was in Kin. Micah had been messing in the front seat while I put Seth in his seat and when it was time for Micah, I buckled him in and closed the door. Then I heard the "locks". He must have locked the doors when he was messing around. Well, back then he couldn't unbuckle himself, and so we had to wait for AAA to come to our rescue!! I kept telling him, just push the button to your seat belt, but he couldn't. Thank heavens for AAA!
