Scary start to Christmas

Hannah and I arrived safely in VA on Tuesday afternoon. My mom was going to pick us up, but she was running late because she was coming from work, had to switch cars, and was stuck in traffic. We were waiting about an hour and a half in the airport for her. While we were waiting, one of the airport security personnel approached me and asked "Are you Jennifer?". I told her that I was and she said that I had to come with her. I was confused and asked her "Is something wrong?". She said yes, that my mom had been in an accident and was pinned between two cars. I asked her if the car was totaled and she said that the car was fine. That made me even more confused, how could the car be fine if she's pinned between two cars?

Hannah and I walked out to the parking garage with the lady and saw my mom sitting in a wheelchair. There were about five other security/police/paramedics around her getting information. They wheeled her inside to get out of the cold and told her that she needed to go to the emergency room. They wanted to take her in an ambulance, but she didn't want to do that.

During all of that I found out what had happened. My mom had already parked her car and got out to get our coats from the trunk. While doing that, some man backed up in his car, obviously not looking where he was going, backed into her and pinned her between the two bumpers. She heard her knee crack and screamed for him to pull his car forward and then she went to the ground. Then he got out of his car and in Spanish said to one of his passengers "She's okay, she just wants money." Not knowing that my mom also speaks Spanish, she responded back to him, that she was hurt and was not out to get his money. So, he went into the airport to get some help.

After the police filled out the report and my mom's vital signs were checked, we left the airport. I drove to my mom's house and Ed took her to the emergency room. She had her leg x-rayed. The doctor didn't find anything broken or fractured. He told her to ice her knee often and take Motrin for the inflammation.

She went to another doctor a few days later for a second opinion. He wrapped her knee, told her to continue to ice it, gave her crutches, and referred her to an orthopedic doctor. She's going to that appointment on Wednesday.

That is scary and a little bit crazy, too! PTL she's okay--that could have been really bad...I hope you had a great Christmas despite it all!
