We had a wonderful Christmas! The theme of the toys was ballerinas and Toy Story. Two of my favorite gifts were a "No!" button that Brian's mom gave to me. It says no in about 5 different ways. She said it's to use on the kids. The other gift was from Brian, dancing lessons. I've been talking about it for years, so we'll be taking 3 lessons of ballroom dancing. It should be fun. After we opened presents, Brian made brunch and his parents came over to eat with us. We got the chance to Skype with Brian's sister and her family in CO. The cousins had fun showing each other their presents. In the afternoon, we cleaned up the house, put all of the toys in the kids' rooms and cleaned up the kitchen. We got to Skype with my mom and sister, which we usually do every Sunday. By then it was time to get ready for dinner. Brian made another wonderful meal and Brian's parents came over again for that. We ended the night by watching Elf and the kids stayed up way too late. It was a busy, but fun day.

This morning Hannah had her Thanksgiving Feast at school. I loved the cute pilgrim and indian costumes. I loved that her teachers dressed up too. Three different classes participated and also made some of the food. One made the butter, one made the rolls and Hannah's class made the cookies. After they ate, they went into the gym to play some games.

It's been about a month since I last posted. I think in the past I've posted on a more regular basis. There are a few reasons why I haven't posted. The first is that there hasn't been much going on that's post worthy. I also haven't felt like posting anything. It's been a hard month with Brian losing his job and all that goes along with that. Because he worked at a church and how things ended there, it hasn't made me want to go to church. We visited one last month, but not counting that, it's been about 2 months since I've gone to church. That's probably the longest in my lifetime that I've done that. We're still in a transition period, not sure what's going to happen next.

Hannah's first day of Pre-K 5 was this past Monday 8/29. She was so excited to start the year. I hope she'll keep that excitement throughout her school career. I loved school, hopefully I'll pass that love on to her.

This week a lot of new things have happened. Not all of them are positive.

Brian's job has become looking for a job. He was let go at work. His last day was this past Sunday.

Brian found out that he has high cholesterol, so he's been trying a new diet.

Hannah started at a new school yesterday. She's going to a Pre-K program for 5 year olds. She will go 4 days a week 9-2. She's really enjoying it.

This summer Noah got off of his nap schedule, so this week with Hannah in school, I've been trying to get him to nap again. It's going pretty well.

I joined a book club for the first time. We're reading 'The Help'. I've heard lots of good things about the book and the movie, so I'm excited to read it.

On Wednesday our playgroup went to the skating rink. They have a 'Mommy and Toddler' skate time. The kids can bring their scooters, cars etc... or attempt to skate, which is what Hannah's doing in this picture.

Today Hannah went to Princess Camp. It was extra event put on by the dance studio where she takes ballet. I dropped her off because the event was 9-2. They colored, had their nails painted, made bracelets and crowns, had a snack and lunch. Near the end of the event they performed a little princess number for the parents.

Summer so far

It's been almost two months since Hannah finished school. Since then we've been busy doing activities with our neighborhood playgroup. Most of the activities have been inside because of the heat. It lasts May-October.

Brian bought a motorcycle to commute to work to save money on gas. He drives about 60 miles a day. Several people asked me how I felt about it and I'm not really worried.

Hannah started a ballet and tumbling class. It meets every Monday until the end of July. She's enjoying it and loves practicing her moves at home. Tomorrow there is an extra event, Princess Camp. I think it will be a lot of fun for her.

About 3 weeks ago, Hannah started swimming lessons. We found a girl that does private lessons and I think it's been good for Hannah to have all of the attention.

Almost a month ago, I had Lasik eye surgery. Brian's been wanting me to have it done for about 10 years, but I didn't think it was a priority, plus I was nervous about having it done. On Mother's Day, Brian gave me a gift certificate to have it done, so I had no choice. ; ) I knew that I was a candidate because eye doctors have told me in the past that I was. It was a very quick procedure. I didn't have enough time to mentally prepare for what was happening, so after the procedure I cried. I was seeing blurry for about a day and my eyes were really dry. I went in for a follow up appointment and the doctor said I'm seeing some 20/20 letters. It will take up to 10 weeks from the surgery to see as well as I'm going to see. It's been great not to have to deal with contacts and glasses!

We celebrated July 4th by going to Schlitterbahn water park in Galveston. It was our first experience as a family going to a theme park. We spent most of our time on the lazy river. We went to Kemah boardwalk for dinner and saw the fireworks. The fireworks near us were cancelled due to lack of rain since April. That night we decided to stay in a hotel even though we were only an hour away from home.

July 5th was my birthday and in the morning we went to the Johnson Space Center. Brian received free tickets at work about 2 years ago and we never used them, so we decided since we were in the area, we would take the kids. We went on the tram tour and then the kids played in the play area. Most of the activities were over their head, so we didn't stay very long. We drove back home because Hannah had a swimming lesson. That night we went out to dinner at Carino's. It was my first experience sending back my food. I ordered Chicken Marsala and when I got it, it just didn't taste like Chicken Marsala I've had in the past. I felt really bad being one of those customers. I ended up ordering Chicken Alfredo, which was really good. For dessert we had birthday cake, yellow cake with chocolate frosting, my favorite, at Brian's parents house.

Noah's been talking more and more. He didn't talk as soon as Hannah did, but I wasn't worried. He's just much more active than she was. He makes us laugh with his silly personality and is such blessing to have in our family. He and Hannah get along pretty well, but they have their moments. I think he'll really miss her when she goes to school 4 days a week.

Hannah's birthday is coming up next month and I've been planning her party. We haven't had friends come to her birthday party since her 1st one, we've just done family parties. This year she's really been giving her input about what she wants and doesn't want. She's decided the guest list, 99% girls. We're doing a carnival theme (balloon animals, face painting, tattoos, pictures with clown noses, popcorn, funnel cakes, hotdogs, snow cones, and birthday cake), so it should be fun. My mom and sister will be coming to visit for her birthday too. One of the big events when she turns 5 is that she'll be getting her ears pierced. She's excited about it, I just don't know if she realizes it will hurt.

So that's been our summer so far. Only 7 more weeks until school starts.

Today my playgroup went to one of the local fire stations and took a tour. It was a lot of fun for the kids and the moms too. I learned some new things. The kids got a firemen hat, a coloring book, crayons and a lollipop. The fireman called it a sucker and Hannah said to me "What's a sucker?" I told her some people call them that.

Right near Hannah's school is a great park. It's funny because I drove by this park so many times picking her up from school and never went to it. On her last day of school, I had to take her because Brian was out of town. Since we live 30 miles from the school, I decided to stay in the area until it was time to pick her up. Right after dropping her off, I took Noah to play on the playground and we spent about 2 hours there. In the middle of the park there is a section of flowers that attract butterflies. I thought a lot of them were really beautiful, so I took these pictures.

We celebrated Mother's Day on Saturday because Brian works on Sundays. I got to sleep in a little bit. Later in the morning, the kids came in with their gifts. Hannah picked out this lamp that I put on the dresser next to the bed. Noah chose a garden flag which I'll put in front of our house soon. Brian got me my favorite peanut butter truffles and a gift certificate to have Lasik done. He's been wanting me to have it done for years and I've hesitated. I guess I have no excuse now.

On Sunday, we went to church and then came home for lunch. Brian's parents came over for a little bit in the afternoon for some cake. Later that afternoon, we Skyped with my mom. We usually do it on Sundays, but I especially wanted to do it on Mother's Day.

Our church has Parent's Night Out the first Friday night of every month, during the school year. This past Friday night was the last one before the summer. Brian suggested that we go roller skating because he's wanted to for a long time and it was recently his birthday. So we invited some friends from church to join us. Five other couples were able to come and we had a lot of fun! It was teen night at the rink, so we fit right in. : )

Yesterday my MOPS group had their Easter egg hunt. It took place in my neighborhood, so we didn't have to drive very far. I got there early to help lay out the eggs. Hannah wanted to help and was getting upset that Noah kept opening the eggs. There was a lot of drama, but she finally calmed down and enjoyed the rest of her time. After the hunt, we walked to the nearby playground. The kids played for about 30 minutes and then we had lunch under the pavilion. It was a beautiful day and the kids had a lot of fun running around.

After almost 10 years of living in TX, we finally made a trip to the Blue Bell Factory. We weren't allowed to take pictures during the tour, so these were the only pictures I took. One interesting thing we learned is that it takes the milk of 50,000 cows for one day of production at the factory. At the end of the tour, we got to sample the ice cream, which of course was the best part.

Last night we celebrated Noah's 2nd birthday. We went to Chili's for dinner. It was 'kids eat free night', so since my kids don't eat much, it was a good night to go. After dinner, we came home and put on our party hats (Hannah's idea). Then Noah opened his presents. He unwrapped them one right after the other. I think he got the hang of it at Christmas. His favorite present was his power wheels lil' quad. It took him no time at all to figure out how to use it. Once all of his presents were opened, we sang happy birthday and he blew out the 2 candles on his Yo Gabba Gabba cake. That is his favorite show!

I think I've said before on this blog that I was nervous to have a boy. It has been the most amazing gift to get to raise a son. He's so sweet, loving, helpful, fun, and full of life. Some things that he loves: Yo Gabba Gabba, dogs, babies, climbing, trucks, dancing, singing, Hannah (when she's not teasing him), being outside, candy, carbs, milk, juice.

I'm looking forward to this year when he'll start talking more. He says a few words, but most of them are only understandable by us at home.
